We are looking for a Pottery Teacher/ Teaching Assistant to help us with the day-to-day running of our studio space and classes. Some experience in teaching, general hospitality industry and foundation in ceramics is required although comprehensive training will be provided at the start.
You don’t need to be fully versed in the technical aspects of the process but a practical positive mind, welcoming smile and a hands-on approach would help you thrive.
Pottery Teacher is involved in the day-to-day pottery operations at the studio, from work with the clay to teaching and interacting with customers and leading the class in the most effective and enjoyable way possible.
You would be faced with various situations requiring direct customer interaction and clear communication, daily class teaching, problem solving on the spot – from admin task management such as email or phone call management, to daily hand-on tasks such as mixing a glaze and work with clay… one day to rewiring a heatgun switch the next, or casting a plaster batt, or repainting a pod, and of course keeping our guests happy and the studio clean and tidy – the real day-to-day joys of running a pottery studio!
We are committed to helping our staff learn, grow and develop new skills … and we expect you to be committed to your role, so you can enjoy your time here as much as we do.
Candidates are expected to:
Be locally based (within 1h radius from the studio)
Have some flexibility in your working schedule
Teach regular weekly and/or weekend classes and occasional taster sessions
Have experience with both wheel-throwing and hand-building
Be professional, confident, patient, energetic and kind
Additional training will be provided on studio-specific practices and teaching style, but you will also be given the freedom to bring your own flair to the process and passion to ceramics art.
If this sounds like an exciting opportunity, send an application including your CV, a short statement about why you would like this job and examples of your work (if you have some).
